Cherry Blossoms on Wakamiya Ōji, Kamakura 2025.4

#trip_japan

If you’re planning a spring visit to Kamakura in 2025, don’t miss the iconic cherry blossoms along Wakamiya Ōji Avenue, especially the Dankazura (段葛), a raised pathway that leads directly to the historic Tsurugaoka Hachimangū Shrine.

What Makes It Special?

Dankazura is a 500-meter-long stone-paved walkway flanked by rows of Somei Yoshino cherry trees—about 170 in total. In late March to early April, these trees bloom to create a stunning pink tunnel, making it one of the most picturesque cherry blossom spots in Kamakura.

Originally constructed by Minamoto no Yoritomo in the 12th century to pray for the safe childbirth of his wife, the path carries both natural beauty and historical charm. The slightly elevated walkway is narrower toward the shrine, creating a beautiful visual effect with the converging lines of trees and lanterns.
